It's Amazing

Bring back aerobics!

21-10-2015 by Codyre family

My daughter has been doing aerobics now for nearly 5 years. After trying dance and then gymnastics, neither really inspired her. She went on to try Aerobics which combines both. She was immediately hooked. The passion and drive my daughter now has with her aerobics is amazing. She just loves it. Not only has she found something she loves she has formed some amazing friendships. The coaches and director Amanda are fantastic with the girls. Highly recommend you encourage your daughter, or son, to give it a go!

Triple A is a very family orientated environment with lots of positive encouragement towards a wide range of age groups. They promote positive self worth and strive to help all athletes preform to their potential. They provide a clean well looked after studio which is friendly an inviting. Triple A provides a variety of experiences from competing in local and national competitions to preforming at local school galas, and other community events such as the Howick Santa parade. Triple A has a high standard of professional coaches which enables kids to gain confidence in many areas as well as focusing on strength, fitness, balance and movement to music as well as introducing the basics of gymnastics.

I have two girls who had been at another dance studio for several years before deciding to change to North Shore Dance Studio. Wow, what a refreshing change. The girls get more personal attention and the teachers genuinely care about both their happiness and their dancing. We should have come here sooner !!

Chess Power provide a fantastic opportunity for school children to develop their chess skills

19-01-2016 by Wayne McDougall

Chess Power provide a fantastic opportunity for school children to develop their chess skills and to take part in many exciting and well-run tournaments throughout the country. Head Coach Paul Macdonald builds a strong rapport with children of all ages, motivating and encouraging each one to do their best. Chess Power offer an extensive array of certificates, trophies, medals and prizes – no one goes home from a Chess Power event empty-handed, although the prestigious awards are reserved for those who truly merit them. Girls are given extra encouragement – although just as skilled as the boys, fewer tend to compete in chess – Chess Power are working hard to correct this by encouraging meritous performance. Paul Macdonald has a strong team working with him. Even when he is not personally present, other Chess Power staff bring the same calm discipline and inspiration to their tournaments. And often tournaments include practical coaching tips, and brain-stimulating puzzles, so the children leave as better players. For interschool tournaments the Chess Power method of taking the scores of the best four kids on the day is much easier and fairer then schools making up their own ranked teams - no allegations of abuse by mis-rankings of the team (deliberate or otherwise) - all players have an incentive to do their best and a silly mistake by your top player means another player can step up and take their place. The website at www.chesspower.co.nz contains detailed results on each tournament – very useful when trying to identify challenging opponents and weaknesses that need work. And helpful for ranking players when required for other school chess tournaments. Paul and his team at Chess Power have a passion for chess and for children to play chess. I am very grateful that they give so many children so many opportunities to play at well run tournaments. Being able to play often, and competitively, is very important for improving play. Chess Power are a powerful force for children's chess in New Zealand. If you want your kids to succeed at chess, send them to a Chess Power event. Thank you Paul, and your team. Long may you continue growing kids minds!

From Joseph's achievement at this regional awards evening, it has put a spotlight on chess and we're hoping this will encourage more of our young to take part! We are an Onehunga based puppet theatre that also happens to run unique and dynamic drama classes for children 5-9 and 10-14. Our approach to the performing arts is based in community and in exploring theatre with all of our senses. We endeavor to impart to children basic “acting” skills as well as encourage them to develop as artists who are open to inspiration and have the tools to tell their own stories. We want the children to learn to express themselves through drama by creating a safe and ... Read more nurturing environment for them to explore who they are in this fast changing world. The classes are fun, imaginative and the students help to develop performances. Both tutors have over 20 years of theatre and teaching practice between us, we are performers and creators and want to encourage the next generation in being confident, creative and strong contributors to the arts and society. We have studied to masters level and continue to practice in the field we have chosen to teach in.
